Facebook Community Update - Facebook 2016

Facebook As The Dominant Media And News Platform?

Image: Facebook Community Update – Facebook 2016 In its Q1 2016 earnings report, Facebook stated a user base of 1,65 billion monthly users with accelerating growth. This does not even include the 1 billion WhatsApp and 900 Million Facebook Messenger or the 400 Million Instagram users. Undoubtably it is the largest ecosystem of social communities to date. Not only does everyone use Facebook, everyone consumes media content and news through Facebook’s social media channels. Ever since the emergence of web 2.0 […]

I-1 Analog Instant Camera

The I-1 Analog Instant Camera by The Impossible Project

In April 2016 The Impossible Project announced their first analog instant camera for Polaroid instant film. The company has been around for a few years and basically saved Polaroid instant film from getting extinct. They started out by repairing and selling used Polaroid cameras and old film material and eventually bought an old Polaroid factory and started to produce their own instant film. As you may know, I followed the company quite closely and tried out their Impossible Instant Lab among many […]

Impressions From Sydney

In February 2016 I moved to Sydney to do entrepreneurial research at the Business School of the University of New South Wales (UNSW) while working on some projects in Germany remotely. With mostly sunny days, awesome beaches and so much to explore, it turns out to be quite a challenge to focus on the work at hand. I didn’t travel that much yet, since I am still amazed by the feel of living here. I rented a waterfront place in Elizabeth Bay with […]

Trying on the Apple Watch - 4

How the Apple Watch (somewhat) changed my life

When Tim Cook introduced the Apple Watch, I was very excited and enthusiastic, as any good Apple fanboy should have been. This blind enthusiasm and the desperate need for something new to change the world was not impaired by the watch’s price tag in any way. Since we all know that Apple is working on becoming a luxury brand, everything seemed pretty reasonable for a paradigm shifting, game changing new device that would redefine time itself. For some reason, I opted for a […]

Fourplay 25th Anniversary

Fourplay Releases 25 Year Anniversary Album: Silver

Fourplay recently released it’s 25 year anniversary album, Silver: “Longevity among jazz groups is a surprisingly rare commodity. With relatively few exceptions, a run of a few years, at most, is standard; for a collective of jazz musicians to stick together for a decade or more is almost unheard of. That puts Fourplay, who celebrates their 25th anniversary this year, in a league of their own. Since 1990, bassist Nathan East, keyboardist Bob James, guitarist Chuck Loeb (who joined five […]

I am going to Sydney for a few months

2016 might certainly turn out to be a year with lots of new beginnings, so I am excited. Starting in February, I will be living in Sydney for a few months. Although Sydney is arguably one of the most distant places from Hamburg, I am looking forward to escaping the winter in Europe. My first stop will be Bondi Beach. I suppose it is not a bad place to start. With temperatures around 27° C (81° F) and lots of time on […]

Matsumi Restaurant

Sashimi Platter at Matsumi

Again I went to Matsumi some time ago, my absolute favourite Sushi restaurant in Hamburg, Germany. It is located in the Collonaden near to the Jungfernstieg at the inner Alster river and I highly recommend it for the most amazing sushi. I don’t know any better place. We got seats at the sushi bar and started out with some very nice side dishes and a sake kava temaki (grilled salmon skin hand roll), which is my absolute favourite hand roll at Matsumi. They […]

Miami Beach - Ocean Drive - Palms

Miami Beach – Ocean Drive

Once back in Miami Beach after the trip through the Caribbean, there was some time left to relax on South Beach. Far less crowded than on New Year’s Eve, the Ocean Drive allowed for some photos without hurdling hordes of party people. Again, we went to Five Guys Burgers, which I can highly recommend, after some shopping and to Toni’s Sushi Bar for Dinner. All in all a nice trip with nothing but snow and cold winds waiting at home.

Sint Maarten - Iguana

Traveling the Caribbean

In January 2016 I traveled the Caribbean and visited the islands of Sint Marteen (the southern part of the island Saint Martin and part of the Netherlands), Antigua, St. Thomas (U.S. Virgin Islands) as well as Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic. All in all it was much more fun than I anticipated. I enjoyed exploring old fortresses protecting the harbor bays known from Hornblower and Bolitho novels, the laid back attitude and vibes as well as the beautiful beaches (although they […]
