Apple's product evolution from 2000 to 2010

1000X smaller and 100X lighter for a third the cost

This graphic has circulated a few times, showing the improvement from an iMac in 2000 to an iPhone 4 2010. 1000X smaller and 100X lighter for a third the cost. Source: weliveinthefuture Well… at least the iMac had USB… but that’s about it.

iPad DAW Controller

AC-7 Core – virtual DAW controller for the iPad

When using Apple Logic Studio 9, a DAW controller always comes in handy. Any control unit of higher quality easily costs more than $ 1,300 (e.g. the Mackie MCU). Now there is an alternative: the first sophisticated iPad DAW controller app AC-7 Core from Saitara Software. The apps run on iPads/iPhones/iPod Touches running iOS4.2 or higher. Wether this app solves all your problems or not, it is quite a setup for small money. For myself I must admit I still […]

Inception - The App

Hans Zimmer and the Inception iPhone app

A week ago the free Inception iPhone App was introduced. It’s a project by the movie’s director Christopher Nolan, Michael Breidenbrücker and Hollywood’s star composer Hans Zimmer. As an absolute Hans Zimmer fan, I tried it out immediately and I must admit, it is intriguing. It uses augmented sound through the iPhone’s headset to change the “dream” your are experiencing which is underlined by music composed by Hans Zimmer. This app is a dream machine that transforms the world around you into a dreamworld. […]

The first Unreal Engine-powered game for iOS, Infinity Blade, has sold at least 274,000 copies in its first five days on sale, according to recent player counts on Game Center. At $6 a copy that’s a $1.64 net for the publisher, and a new record, according to Gamesindustry.biz. Source: “Infinity Blade iPhone game nets $1.6M in five days” – The Loop Not so shaby at all. I suppose there is real money to be made in the app store. The full story […]

The Unreal Engine on the iPad – Infinity Blade

It’s finally happening. As announced in September 2010, Epic Games brings the Unreal Engine 3 to the iOS platform. Until today, there only was a Unreal showcase application called Epic Citadel. In this app not much is happening. One can just explore a castle realm. It looks nice with lots of animations, amazing visuals and textures. It sure has the best graphics on the iOS platform. Since today the first full game is available: Infinity Blade for just 4,99 €. Infinity Blade is […]

Apple Charger

Apple Battery Charger – Recharge the Apple way…

Using Apple’s wireless keyboards and mouses keeps challenges me with the need for new batteries in the most inconvenient situations, such as Sunday afternoons when there is no place to get new ones. Obviously rechargeable batteries would be an option but it never quite worked out with my Apple peripherals before. Still, I want the most energy-efficient way to power my accessories. As advertised, the new Apple Battery Charger might just do the trick. Reduce, reuse, recharge. Introducing the first battery […]

Hornblower and Star Trek – Connecting the dots

Image source: “Captain Horatio Hornblower R.N.” Wikipedia I recently researched about literature from my childhood: The Hornblower Series by C. S. Forester. When I got around to study the Wikipedia entry in more detail, I realized: Gene Roddenberry was influenced by the Hornblower character while creating the Star Trek characters James T. Kirk and Jean-Luc Picard […]. (Source: “Becoming Picard (Patrick Stewart Interview)” BBC Online) After all, there is a red line connecting some of my favourite narrative universes. Also, many great people seem to have read the […]

Pocket Simon

Simon Says… for iPad / iPhone

Image taken from http://www.handheldmuseum.com/MB/Simon.htm) Just as much fun as I remember from my childhood… It just looked a little different. I still have it but it does not support Game Center… This free App is available for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and of course incorporates Game Center. It has some advanced game modes where either colors or sounds are switching position after each round. I guess I won’t be needing my old Pocket Simon anymore.
