The round thing with a hole in it

Yesterday it was raining again, but luckily something cheered me up. Not only did I go to a summer party , I won a prize in a tombola. OMG! … and some prize it was. Take a look for yourself while I am unboxing my precious trophy…

So far so good. Obviously I am supposed to put something in it. But what?

What is it? Some Bauhaus like interior design accessory? It has to be something special because it received a reddot design award. That certainly means something, doesn’t it? Thanks to my colleague, Philip Richter, I finally found it on the manufacturer’s homepage: It is called “jar Bali”. But ASA doesn’t seem to know what to do with it either. So, basically it is a round thing with a hole in it.

I still don’t have a clue about the purpose of this product, but in the end I am happy to have it. One thing this item is certainly good for… regifting. If you are interested in my precious highly acclaimed round thing with a hole in it made by ASA, feel free to get in touch.

A nerd’s superstition

Recently I noticed that superstitions about the Apple iSight cameras are still around. Still it makes some people paranoid. It reminds me of a interesting forum post on MacRumors from 2010:

“Hey everyone, iSight camera on the MBP makes me paranoid. I mean, i’ve never used a laptop with built-in camera before, in fact i’ve never used a laptop before. When using a webcam on desktop i used it and unplugged it because of the fear of being watched.

I mean how are we so sure somebody is not watching us or recording us? I don’t want to put a black tape to my isight. Is there a way we can be certain? This idea freaks me out. All ideas welcomed.

ps: reading 1984 makes you more and more paranoid about these issues. Big brother…
